Ellington Public Schools uses Bridges Math Learning Center for our math instruction. Bridges is a standards-based math curriculum that provides strategies that emphasize conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills through the use of visual models and coherent learning progressions.
Content Area Focus for 3rd Grade:
- Addition and Subtraction Fact Fluency
- Multiplication and Division
- Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction
- Fractions
- Rectangular Arrays and Area
- Geometry
Bridges in the Classroom:
- Problems & Investigations- Whole group activities that incorporate independent and partner work.
- Work Places- engaging math stations that offer practice with ongoing skills.
- Math Forums- structured time for students to share work.
- Problem Strings- teacher presents a sequence of problems to entire class and students develop efficient ways to solve problem.
- Assessments- completed independently at the beginning and end of each unit.
